McClain, who allegedly pointed a gun at a man’s head last November, was found guilty of the charges today after a codefendant agreed to a plea and agreed to testify against him. McClain has been sentenced to 6 months in jail, though he will appeal the ruling. It’s unclear when he’ll start his jail sentence and if he’ll actually serve the whole 6 months, but it’s very possible, if not definite, that McClain will get a suspension from Roger Goodell on top of any jail time. We may not see McClain play a snap in 2012. If he were to miss the season or a large portion of it, it would be yet another blow to a new Raiders front office team that is trying to compete in spite of the consequences of the previous front office’s shortsightedness. It’s not often that the legal system comes down hard on a professional athlete, but that’s what happened to Rolando McClain — at least for now. The Raiders linebacker was found guilty of third-degree assault, reckless endangerment and menacing and wrongful discharge of a firearm, and he was sentenced to 180 days in jail on Thursday — 60 days for each crime. The conviction stems from an incident that took place last November in Decatur, Alabama where McClain allegedly beat up 30-year-old Rishard Tapscott. McClain supposedly punched and kicked him, leaving Tapscott with a broken nose, mild concussion and cracked ribs. He also held a gun to his head, threatened to kill him, and allegedly fired beside the man’s head. McClain’s lawyer is appealing and seeking a jury trial.McClain was an All-American linebacker at Alabama and drafted eighth overall by the Raiders in 2010. He’s known for being a productive linebacker who’s very quiet with the media. Sometimes it’s the quiet ones you have to worry about.Below is video of McClain leaving the courthouse Thursday:

McClain was ordered to pay a total of $2,000 in fines for four charges, including reckless endangerment, third-degree assault, menacing and discharging a firearm. The alleged victim, Rishard Tapscott, claims he was beaten by McClain and friend Jarodiaus Willingham. Earlier Thursday, Willingham pleaded guilty and agreed to a 90-day sentence in return for testifying against McClain. The incident in question occurred Nov. 30, and a cell phone video of the incident surfaced Wednesday. McClain's lawyer, Harvey Steinberg, told the Huntsville Times that Thursday's verdict was "meaningless" and said McClain will appeal.
